Samsung to Produce OLEDoS Panels for Microsoft

Ana sayfa / News

According to South Korean media outlet The Elec, Samsung Display and Microsoft have signed a new partnership agreement to develop and supply OLEDoS panels for Microsoft’s mixed reality (MR) headset devices. The deal is said to cover hundreds of thousands of devices. So, what is OLEDoS and what are its advantages? Here are the details…

Recent reports indicate that Microsoft is developing MR devices for multimedia content such as games and movies, and these devices are expected to be released after the OLEDoS specifications are finalized. The devices are anticipated to be primarily targeted at commercial sectors and are expected to be delivered as early as 2026.

Last year, Samsung Display formed a new team called the M Project to focus on OLEDoS panel technology. The “M” represents “microdisplay” and the team is led by Vice President Jaebeom Choi. Samsung Display is also collaborating with Samsung’s logic business unit, Samsung System LSI, to develop OLEDoS.

Samsung Promises $1 Million Reward for This!

South Korean tech giant Samsung is offering users a reward worth a fortune. Here are the details about the new campaign...

Samsung System LSI designs the silicon wafers for OLEDoS, which are produced by Samsung Foundry. These wafers are then sent to Samsung Display’s A1 factory in Cheonan, where organic materials are coated and packaged onto them. Reports suggest that if OLEDoS supply increases, Samsung Display plans to perform color filter and MLA processes in-house.

OLEDoS stands for OLED on Silicon, which refers to coating OLEDs onto a silicon substrate instead of the traditional glass substrate. This technology represents a new generation of screens that are thinner and offer higher pixel density compared to glass substrates.

OLEDoS provides ultra-high resolution with thousands of pixels per inch, compared to traditional screens that use hundreds of pixels per inch. It also offers a wide viewing angle and helps to mitigate issues like the Screen Door Effect, providing the best immersion and minimal eye strain for users.
